Come, share the magic of the mountains! Enjoy the Iron Mountain Inn’s famous chocolate chip cookies as you watch the sun’s ever changing light on Doe Mountain,, Iron Mountain, and Pond Mountain from our open decks or covered porches.
Nature’s sounds, not urban sounds. Quiet and restful, not frantic and crazy. Here atop the mountain we celebrate “mountain time” so you’ll have time to smell the roses while you enjoy bird song and the rustle of wind in the trees.
Take a walk on one of our trails. Maybe you’ll catch a glimpse of a doe and her fawn, a buck bounding over the fields, or even a turkey strutting down the driveway. We can always promise squirrels and rabbits. In fact, when you enjoy breakfast on on the deck, George might join you.
While watching the sun play tag with the trees on the mountains, it’s time to start planning how to spend your time in the mountains. Perhaps a day piloting a pontoon boat exploring the shoreline of beautiful Watauga Lake. Or maybe you want to hike a section of the Appalachian Trail. These activities are within 20 minutes of the Inn. In fact, a section of the AT runs along the ridge right behind the Inn on Iron Mountain.
Perhaps you prefer a quiet relaxing time for your vacation at the Inn. We have an extensive library of books on a wide variety of subjects. Some are in our “Exchange Library” where if you don’t finish the book during your stay, you are welcome to take it along with you and if you finished a book and don’t want to read it again, we’d be delighted to add it to our collection.
Do you like live theater? Just over the mountain in Abingdon, VA is Barter Theatre with a professional repertory company. During the season, you can see 4 plays in 2 days.
The Virginia Creeper Trail is something for the entire family…and you don’t have to work too hard, either. Bring your own bike or rent one from The Bike Station in Abingdon, VA. The Creeper Trail is 34 miles altogether, but you will probably only coast down the 14 miles from Whitetop Mountain back to Damascus, VA. Stop along the way for a visit to the railroad museum and for a snack at the Trailside Restaurant about half way down.
Evenings are a time to relax: watch the sun go down with a refreshing glass of ice tea or something stronger, play dominoes or other board games, maybe a game of poker, chat with new found friends – maybe you can solve the problems of the world..who knows!
Are you a NASCAR fan? The Inn is just over the mountain from Bristol Motor Speedway home of "Racin' the Way it Auter Be" and the world's fastest half mile track. Race weekends in March and August are among our busiest so come cheer your favorite driver along with other fans.
And then there are the fine restaurants in the area: Mel’s Monsoon Thai just up the road; La Cucina with fine cooked-to-order Italian; Tributary with steaks and seafood; Suba’s where you start with dessert; Pizza Place with “the best” pizza around, and finally Captain’s Table overlooking Watauga Lake and Iron Mountain.

Our Policies
- Please note we are a NON-SMOKING PROPERTY to protect our health and satisfy our insurance policy.
- Per our insurance policy, no candles are allowed in our rooms. They will set off our fire alarm system.
- Cancellation Policy: Entire reservation will be charged if cancellation is less than 10 days prior to check-in date, unless the room can be rebooked. A processing fee of $30 will be charged for cancellations made ten days or more prior to check-in date.
- Early departures and no-shows are responsible for the cost of their entire reservation.
